By: andrew.regan.2006@googlemail.comHoneymoons are a trip of a lifetime for many, so why not make it just that. Throw away the traditional Caribbean and Indian Ocean brochures and take your new spouse on a romantic adventure you’ll both never forget.

January is a perfect time to visit ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden. As the name suggests this place is made almost entirely of ice and snow and lets you view the magical northern lights from the comfort of your bed. Your days can be spent enjoying the stunning surrounding area where skiing and snowmobiling will get your adrenaline pumping.

Next is another cold one, but it’s worth braving the icy conditions. For the more adventurous honeymooners a trip to the Antarctic Peninsula takes some beating. As you can imagine, there are no hotels in Antarctica so you stay on the ship that will take you from Argentina to one of the most beautiful frozen wildernesses on the planet. This trip is something not many people in the world can say they have done, so it’s well worth the extra effort.

Escape to the warmer climes of Northern Africa and head to Marrakech in Morocco for a colourful and romantic stay in one of the city’s famous riads. This ancient market city is full of hustle and bustle, exotic foods and an atmosphere that not many other places in the world can match.

Forget sprawling beachside resorts, full of noisy travellers and their families and head to the romantic and exotic islands of Tahiti in French Polynesia. Tahiti has intimate resorts, miles of quiet sandy beaches and a tropical climate that enjoys high temperatures throughout the year – perfect for a romantic break in paradise.

If you’ve got two weeks to spare, travel the Chinese leg of the famous Silk Road. Start in Xian and travel by plane and train through Beijing and to Kashgar, which is one of the most evocative Silk Road towns. This famous journey is a fabulous way to see this vast and picturesque country.

If you are a couple of honeymoon scuba divers, visit the Vanuatu archipelago in the South Pacific. A collection of 83 volcanic islands, Vanuatu is a natural adventure playground with some truly stunning reefs and wrecks from World War II. There are also active volcanoes and jungle treks if you fancy a bit of adventure, but also secluded sandy beaches to relax on after a day exploring.

Lastly, take your honeymoon in New Zealand and experience breathtaking scenery and adrenaline thrills in the ultimate action and adventure country. Take yourself around the North and South islands by train, plane, coach and car and stop off in Queenstown for bungee jumping, sky diving, white water rafting and more. If that doesn’t tire you out enough try skiing an active volcano, Mount Ruapehu, just south of Taupo on the North Island.
